10 Simple Snack Ideas

Updated: Oct 3, 2022

Feeling peckish? Looking for something to satisfy your cravings between meals?

Look no further - below are 10 easy snack ideas, listed from quickest to more lengthy prep times.

1. Fruit bowl

You can’t go wrong with a bowl of fruit. Easily throw together fruits you have at home. I suggest apple and banana slices as a base. Melons are a refreshing addition. Both blueberries and strawberries go wonderfully on top. I finish my fruit bowls with a squeeze of lemon juice to help preserve the fruits' freshness.

2. Get your greens

Easily prepare a plate of some light greens. Cucumber slices and celery are amazing when paired with dips like hummus. Additionally, carrots can also be a great crunch to add.

3. Peanut buttery goodness

Feeling for something that will fill you up a bit more. You can easily fulfill your need with peanut butter-topped apple slices.

Feeling fancy? Drizzle honey on top and throw on some crushed peanuts.

4. Good old trail mix

Need I say more? Simply gather nuts, dried fruits, and granola together and there you have it. No one will judge you if you add in some chocolate chips or M&Ms.

It can be helpful to make this in a jar as you can quickly shake everything together and have enough for later.

5. Crackers and guacamole

Think of it as a down-sized avocado toast.

In a bowl, prepare sliced avo, the juice of a lemon, and salt before using a form to mash it all together.

Next, prepare your crackers on a plate and there you have it, crackers, and guacamole.

Following will be snack ideas that require more time and prep. Not to worry, they are still easy to make.

6. Stovetop popcorn

I have become so accustomed to microwaveable popcorn that I had begun forgetting the pure goodness that comes with making popcorn the good old-fashioned way – on the stove.

On medium heat, add 15ml of oil or butter to your pan or pot. Include your kernels and watch the magic unfold.

Once popped, throw it into a bowl and add salt to taste.

7. Mini charcuterie platter

Maybe not as fancy, but just as delicious.

Add your choice of cheeses, deli meats, and fruits for a portion of scrumptious finger food.

8. Not-so-Greek salad

Salads have an image of being boring, but when done right they can be a refreshing snack.

Pair together crispy iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, feta cheese, red onion, cucumber, and your choice of a carb and protein.

For carbs, I like corn, quinoa, or even leftover pasta. My go-to protein is either chopped chicken or boiled eggs but you can use bacon as well.

9. Pickled cucumber salad

This is a recipe I learned from my mom and enjoyed throughout my childhood years.

In a dish, grate 2 whole cucumbers.

Pour on top half a cup of vinegar, or as you see fit.

Next, add pepper, sugar to taste and a generous dose of salt – this will help the cucumbers let go of their water and create a wonderful juice for the salad.

Patience is key here as the salad will be most enjoyed after sitting in the fridge for half an hour.

10. Smoothie

Some love them, some despise them – I’ll consider myself neutral.

Smoothies are a wonderful way to quickly boost your nutrient intake, stay hydrated and fill yourself up.

There are plenty of lovely smoothie recipes online but below I have listed smoothie stables to include.

  • Spinach

  • Mango

  • Dairy/plant-based milk

  • Banana

  • Pineapple

  • Fruit Juice

  • Apples
