Benefits and examples of volunteering

Updated: Oct 3, 2022

Did you know that there are plenty of benefits to volunteering? See examples of volunteering options based on your interests and then read on to learn the benefits.

Where to volunteer?

  • What to do outdoors?

Want to do something on the beach? Two Oceans Aquarium offers a variety of options for teens and adults! From beach cleanups to educating others, there are lots that you can do. Email them at volunteer@aquarium.co.za or call them at +27 (0)21 418 3823.

Another option for outdoorsy people is helping out at your local parkrun. You will help with pre-event setup, as well as your choice of a task. Register and contact the parkrun near you! I have personally done this and found it to be an enjoyable experience. The directors were incredibly helpful and I worked with a wonderful group of people.

  • Do you have a soft spot for animals?

There are plenty of animal shelters that would appreciate your time! Popular ones include TEARs, Lucky Lucy Foundation, and Animal Rescue Organisation. You can help by walking dogs, cleaning the animals, or simply giving them love.

  • Children

If you love working with children, there are plenty of options for you.

Two options that I found are reach for a dream and GVI. You can help with outings, teaching, and games.

  • Passionate about making food

You can use this passion to feed the hungry. Make and distribute food to those in your area or volunteer at Ladles of Love.
